Thanks Mr.Esty. Your kind words are like a mint julep on my brain. I'm glad you like the last drawing, 'cuz that's the one I drew three goddam times and it still ain't to my likin'.
One of my favorite things is how you never actually see the ace of the man. This is a lovely set of illustrations! Even your text is wonderful. I also think that last panel is wonderful.
gorgeous! your style here reminds me of Cyril Pedrosa's work in Three Shadows, the flowing pencils are just great. And the song is great too, I love Kristin Hersh's version.
The version I worked off of is from the Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music,Volume Four. Recorded by the Blue Sky Boys in 1936. I think it's on Youtube.
Wow, that's beautiful. The inking is just sublime. I love the way the lines in the water and the trees (and her hair!) echo each other. Everything looks so fluid. And the lettering is great.
I really want to sit under the tree in the second to last panel. Preferably when the murderer isn't there.
Me like to draw trees and it hurts if I don't draw the turts. Thanks for the compliments, coming from you I feel like a hamster getting a pat from God.
